NIU choirs to perform fall concert Oct. 16

Eric Johnson conducts NIU choral students.NIU’s choral program will hold its annual fall concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Boutell Memorial Concert Hall of the Music Building.

The concert will feature the NIU Chamber Choir, Concert Choir and University Chorus, all under the direction of Eric Johnson, director of choral activities in the NIU School of Music.

On the program are works by Benjamin Britten, Samuel Barber, F. Josef Haydn, Robert Pearsall, Moses Hogan, Jonathan Dove and many others. The audience also will hear NIU orgran professor James Russell Brown and NIU alum Jim Nerstheimer, organist at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in DeKalb.

Also included in the program is a special performance by the Chamber Choir of “Afro-American Fragments” by William Averitt. Averitt will be in attendance at the concert after participating in workshops with Chamber Choir.
