Fans will have their first chance to see the Northern Illinois men’s and women’s basketball teams in action from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, when NIU hosts the Huskie Hoops Preview inside the NIU Convocation Center.
Come out and see the final hour of women’s basketball practice as they prepare for the third season of the Kathi Bennett era at NIU, followed by the first hour of the first practice of the season for Mark Montgomery and the Huskie men’s team.
Along with checking out practice, fans will have the chance to meet the players and coaches from both teams while also selecting their seats for the upcoming season of Huskie hoops.
Snacks and drinks will be available and all fans in attendance will receive free admission to the NIU volleyball match at 7 p.m., against Buffalo.
Entering his second season leading the NIU men, Montgomery welcomes back his top-five leading scorers and top-six rebounders from a season ago.
The Huskie men will look to build upon last season’s finish when they defeated MAC West champion Eastern Michigan in the opening round of the MAC Tournament, NIU’s first tournament victory since 2003.
After reaching the MAC Tournament quarterfinals for the first time since 2007 last season, Bennett and the NIU women return eight players and over 60 percent of their points and rebounds.
Showing the principles of Bennett’s famed “pack” defense, the Huskies ranked in the top four in the league in scoring defense, opponent field goal percentage, opponent three-point percentage and defensive rebounding last season and look to take the next step this year.
Basketball season tickets are on sale now, including the combined men’s and women’s season ticket for just $126.
Season tickets for the NIU men’s basketball team are just $99 for the general public and $86 for NIU faculty/staff or senior citizens (62 and older). NIU women’s basketball season tickets are available for just $50, with faculty/staff or senior citizen season tickets available for $40.
