Student Association promotes voter registration

There is still time to register to vote in DeKalb County for the Nov. 6 general election. The last day to register is Tuesday, Oct. 9.

NIU’s Student Association is offering five on-campus opportunities for students, faculty and staff to register to vote. Registration sessions are scheduled at the Holmes Student Center bus turnaround from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, and Wednesday, Oct. 3, and from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, Thursday, Oct. 4, and Friday, Oct. 5.

Registrants must display two pieces of identification. Neither needs to be a photo ID, but one must include a current DeKalb County address.

Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • Illinois driver’s license
  • Illinois state ID
  • Employee or student ID
  • Credit card
  • Social Security card
  • Birth certificate
  • Utility bill in applicant’s name
  • Mail postmarked to the applicant
  • Valid U.S. passport
  • Lease or rental contract

Those unable to make any of those times can call the Student Association at (815) 753-0483 to make an appointment to register.

Meanwhile, early voting will take place on campus from Monday, Oct. 22, through Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Holmes Student Center art gallery, located near the hotel lobby.

Times are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
