NIU MAP-Works launches first survey

September 19, 2012

MAP-Works logoDo you have good study habits? Are you getting enough sleep at night? Do you miss being at home?

The answers to these questions could be indicative of your overall success in college, and the NIU MAP-Works survey-based assistance program is designed to keep freshman and new transfer students focused on reaching their academic goals.

The MAP-Works Fall Transition Survey is the first step in developing strong habits for collegiate success and is available now to students through their NIU student email account. The survey will be available until Monday, Oct. 8.

Additionally, MAP-Works has launched a web application that provides students with the convenience of taking surveys and viewing reports directly from a smart phone or iPad. The MAP-Works application is free and available in the Apple and Android App stores.

Students who participate in the initial survey will receive a free NIU window cling.

NIU MAP-Works celebrates its fourth year with more than 300 trained faculty and staff members prepared to assist students in need. Randi Napientek, assistant director of Student Academic Success, said that it is essential for everyone in the NIU community to do their part in making sure students are prepared for success.

“It’s important for students to start college on the right foot, and MAP-Works is a good first step,” Napientek said. “The surveys have proven to help students focus on habits that may impede their success, so we have trained faculty and staff in place to work with them in order to get the best results possible.”

2012-2013 MAP-Works survey dates:

  • Fall Transition Survey: now through Monday, Oct. 8
  • Fall Check-Up Survey: Saturday, Nov. 3, through Monday, Nov. 19
  • Spring Transition Survey: Saturday, Feb. 2, through Monday, Feb. 25
