NIU’s Office of Admissions invites volunteers from the university community to assist Thursday, Oct. 4, with Discover NIU Day.
This invitation-only event is directed to seniors enrolled in the high schools that comprise the DeKalb County school system: DeKalb, Genoa-Kingston, Hinckley-Big Rock, Kaneland, Sandwich, Somonauk and Sycamore.
The purpose of the event is to show these seniors that they can stay within a stone’s throw of home and still receive a world-class college education.
Events planned for the day include a welcome presentation, a question-and-answer session with a diverse group of current NIU students, an academic and social organization information fair and attendance at one of several “model classes” to be conducted by select NIU faculty members.
Students then will break for lunch to be followed by a comprehensive bus tour of the NIU campus.
“We’re putting our best foot forward by staging what amounts to a selective open house for our friends and neighbors from DeKalb County,” said Stephanie Poulos, event organizer and assistant director of Admissions. “This event, along with our DeKalb County Scholarship, shows NIU’s commitment to keeping our best students firmly rooted in the DeKalb area.”
A number of roles still needed to be filled for those interested in contributing. If interested, contact Poulos at firstname.lastname@example.org.
