Northern Illinois middle blocker Sarah Angelos (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) and libero Amber Walker (Juneau, Alaska/Juneau/Western Oregon) swept the Mid-American Conference’s weekly awards, the league announced Tuesday.

Angelos was named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career, while Walker was named MAC West Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career.

The award sweep is the second time in program history that NIU has accomplished the feat. The last time came at the end of the 2011 regular season as Walker was again part of the mix.

Both Huskies played large roles in NIU’s perfect 4-0 weekend for a first place finish at the Missouri State Invitational.

Angelos hit .413 with a 3.00 kills per set average and 12 blocks. The junior’s .722 hitting percentage against New Orleans was a season high as she led the team in hitting percentage on the weekend by over .100 points.

Walker was named to Missouri State Invitational All-Tournament Team as well after recording 5.42 digs per game. In the Huskies first place-clinching win over host Missouri State, the senior recorded a career-high 33 digs en route to totaling 103 digs on the week.

The Huskies continues their 14-match road trip today at 7 p.m. in Cedar Falls, Iowa as the NIU (7-5) puts its four-match winning streak up against Northern Iowa (6-4), who received 40 votes in this week’s AVCA Coaches Poll and was ranked No. 25 last week.
