Instruction is offered for ages 4 through teen and adult. Classes include creative movement, pre-ballet, ballet, pointe, tap, jazz hip hop, Irish step, ballroom, Latin and swing. Adult tap and ballet also will be offered.

Students are taught by NIU faculty and instructors who hold degrees in dance education, have danced professionally or are currently dance performance majors at NIU.

Kelly Hemmingway, who will teach Irish dance, will offer instruction in soft- and hard-shoe. Barbara Heimerdinger, KNPE faculty member, will teach ballroom, Latin and swing. Jessica Greenen will teach ballet.

The program’s mission is to reach all members of the NIU, DeKalb and surrounding communities and to provide the opportunity for everyone to explore the joy of movement through dance. The Community Dance School, directed by KNPE faculty member Shauna Havener, is currently in its 22nd year.

Registration will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, in Anderson Hall 139. For more information, call (815) 753-5498or (815) 718-1464.
