NIU Outdoor Adventures now hiring students

August 27, 2012

NIU Outdoor AdventuresWould you prefer to paddle down the Rock River rather than watch TV? Perhaps leading others in activities to better themselves sounds more gratifying than playing video games on your couch?

If you or someone you know prefers trying new things, being active and getting some fresh air, then Outdoor Adventures (OA) has great opportunities available.

The headquarters of the OA program is the Adventure Center, which is located in the back of the Rec Center. The center is focused on getting students, faculty, and community members into the outdoors.

The program rents out gear such as canoeing and camping equipment, backyard games, mountain bikes and snowboards. The Adventure Center is also a resource for planning your own adventures with a resource library and helpful staff.

OA offers a variety of guided adventure trips focused on providing our NIU community new experiences in exciting places all over the map. Some of the many trip activities include kayaking, backpacking, mountain-biking and rock-climbing, as well as other forms of outdoor recreation such as volunteering.

The OA Teambuilding Program is focused on helping strengthen teams. We use mental, physical, and emotional challenges in the form of initiatives to enhance communication, trust, and accountability throughout the group in a fun, safe, and controlled manner.

If you choose to accept one of these challenging and rewarding positions, you will receive training that explores the many avenues of outdoor recreation and build your resume with teaching and leading experience.  Get outside the box!
