Northern Illinois Athletics invites all area golfers, alumni and Huskie fans to hit the links and support their favorite NIU teams in the process at the second annual NIU Coaches’ Classic golf tournament, planned Friday, Sept. 7, at the Kishwaukee Country Club in DeKalb.
The event will take place in conjunction with the NIU Varsity Club All-Sport Reunion, scheduled Saturday, Sept. 8, on the university campus.
The golf tournament brings together supporters of all 17 NIU sports and serves as the primary all-sports golf tournament fundraiser for the year. Golfers have the option of “playing” for a Huskie team of their choice – with all proceeds from that individual or foursome going to that program – or can select the “all sport” option.
The tournament begins at 11:30 a.m. with registration and lunch, followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start and 6 p.m. heavy hors d’oeuvres. Prizes will be awarded on several holes throughout the course and attendees can bid on unique experiences and autographed items following the tournament.
The next day, student-athlete alumni will have the opportunity to reconnect with former teammates, coaches and staff for a fun-filled Saturday afternoon at the Varsity Club All-Sport Reunion.
The weekend includes a tour of the Jeffrey and Kimberly Yordon Center, a pre-game tailgate inside the Varsity Club tent and tickets to the NIU football game versus the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks.
The reunion starts at 2:30 p.m. with a 45-minute tour of the Yordon Center, with the reunion tailgate beginning at 3:30 p.m. Kickoff for the game is slated for 6 p.m.
