NIU-SWE won two awards in the Small Section category.

The first award was an honorable mention for the best collegiate section. The second was an award for the best collegiate website. NIU-SWE received $300 in cash in addition to receiving these awards.

“The website is established using various Web 2.0 design tools to get more into women providing them with interaction and build intuition about engineering,” website manager Shalini Koney said.

“This reward exemplifies our SWE members’ hard work and dedication to promoting females in engineering to the NIU community and surrounding area,” added Amanda Emrich, NIU-SWE president for 2011-2012.

SWE faculty adviser Suma Rajashankar thanked the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology for its support.

“NIU SWE section members did an awesome job once again this year,” Rahashankar said. “They participated in lots of outreach activities at various local school districts, and they also established the SWE website.”
