NIU night in Joliet sure to produce fireworks

July 16, 2012

The players for the Joliet Slammers and Windy City Thunderbolts aren’t the only ones providing fireworks at Joliet’s Silver Cross Field Friday night at 7:05 p.m.  That’s because Northern Illinois University is sponsoring the July 20 fireworks night as part of its season-long partnership with the Slammers.

Will County is an important area in our region,” says NIU director of marketing and communications Brad Hoey, who forged the relationship. “Having a presence in Joliet through a partnership with a great organization like the Slammers allows NIU to remain top of mind for potential students and their families when considering their choices for a high-quality academic experience at a student-centered research university.  We invite fans to visit us at the game to find out more about the opportunity that awaits them at NIU.”

Cherilyn G. Murer, chair of the NIU Board of Trustees and CEO of Joliet-based Murer Consultants, is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

NIU Admissions representatives will also be on hand at Silver Cross Field to answer questions and provide information about the university to interested students and families.

Several opportunities for prizes and giveaways will be available to fans attending the game, including a chance to win tickets to the Sept. 1 NIU vs. Iowa football game at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Tickets for Joliet Slammers baseball start at $5 for lawn seats and can be purchased online at www.jolietslammers.com  or at the Silver Cross Field box office, located at 1 Mayor Art Schultz Dr. in downtown Joliet. Directions are available online.
