Five additional Northern Illinois football games have been scheduled for broadcast, and the Huskies released four game times Thursday as the Mid-American Conference released its complete 2012 television schedule.

Northern Illinois’ season opener Sept. 1 with Iowa at Chicago’s historic Soldier Field will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. Central Time and will be televised by ESPNU. Soldier Field Showdown III is the first of six games on an ESPN platform.

NIU’s Sept. 22 match up versus Big 12 foe Kansas at Huskie Stadium and the regular-season finale Nov. 23 at Eastern Michigan will either be televised by ESPNU or shown on ESPN3.com pending local television arrangements with kickoff time dependent on which platform televises the game.

The Huskies’ games at Akron (Oct. 20) and Western Michigan (Oct. 27) will be available through the MAC’s syndicated television package produced by ESPN Plus and carried in markets throughout the Midwest and across the nation. Both games will also be available on ESPN GamePlan and on ESPN3.com and will kickoff at 11 a.m. (CT).

The game time for NIU’s home finale versus Toledo on Nov. 14, which was previously announced by the MAC, is set for 8 p.m. and will be shown on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.

“Our football program has benefitted greatly from the national exposure we have enjoyed by our association with ESPN through the Mid-American Conference,” said Jeff Compher, NIU associate vice president and director of Athletics. “ESPN’s various platforms allow NIU fans across the country the ability to follow the Huskies.”

Northern Illinois also set game times for four Huskie Stadium home games.

The Sept. 8 match up with Tennessee-Martin will kick off at 6 p.m. The Huskies’ Sept. 29 Central Michigan game, the Oct. 13 Homecoming contest versus Buffalo, and the Massachusetts game on Nov. 3 will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. (CT).

Since 2006, Northern Illinois has made 61 television appearances, with a dozen games televised in 2011. In addition to the Huskies’ six appearances on an ESPN platform, CBS Sports Network will televise the Sept. 15 contest at Army.

Northern Illinois 2012 football season tickets are on sale now online through the NIU Athletics External Office at (815) 753-1923 for just $120 for the full six-game Huskie Stadium season.

Mini-plans, featuring any three Huskie Stadium games, can be purchased for $60, while NIU’s new HuskieLand Plan tickets provide a ticket to the season-opener versus Tennessee-Martin on Sept. 8, the Kansas game on Sept. 22 and the MAC West rivalry game versus Toledo on Nov. 14 along with $45 in gift cards from Buffalo Wild Wings, Village Commons Bookstore and HyVee.
