The Northern Illinois University softball team continues its season-ending, seven-game road trip when the Huskies travel to South Bend, Ind., to face Notre Dame.
Tuesday’s contest with Notre Dame will be the final tune up for the Huskies before the regular season finale at Western Michigan this weekend which takes on added importance after NIU (19-32, 7-13 MAC) split a doubleheader with Mid-American Conference East leader Bowling Green on Friday, but lost its doubleheader with Toledo on Sunday.
“Midweek games are getting better for the conference weekend,” NIU head coach Lindsay Chouinard said. “That’s what we’re going to try and do tomorrow.”
Dani Parrish (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) continues to pace the Northern Illinois offense. She batted .500 in five games last week, going 8-for-16 including two triples and a double. The senior outfielder also drove in three runs and scored a pair. Parrish is batting .353 on the season with six doubles, three triples and four home runs.
Notre Dame (32-13, 13-3 BIG EAST) enters play riding an 11-game winning streak. Amy Buntin leads the way for the Irish offense. She’s batting .370 with 10 home runs and a team-high 48 RBIs. Dani Miller is right behind her, hitting at a .341 clip with 45 runs batted in and team-leading 14 home runs.
