“During the worst weather, we were seven shots up on the two teams that were below us at the time and making a run for the team above,” said head coach Pam Tyska. “Once the weather got better, we started to get into trouble.”
The Huskies posted a second round 341 and have a two-day total of 674, four shots behind Bowling Green, which sits in eighth (670). Kent State leads the field with a 608.
Senior Kelsie Passolt (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) leads all Huskie golfers with a 158 after carding an 80 in the second round. She sits in 13th place. Junior Allie Parthie (Marinette, Wis./Marinette), who began the day in 35th, trimmed five strokes off her first round score to shoot a second round 79. She is in 27th with a 163.
After posting an 80 her first round at the MAC Championships, Jenny Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) struggled in her second round. Niemiec shot an 89 and fell to 37th place. Taylor Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) held onto 44th after scoring a second round 93 for a two-day total of 184. Allison Van Heuklom (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) shot a second round 96 and is in 45th with a 191.
NIU concludes play Sunday. The Huskies tee off at 7:30 a.m. with Van Heuklom. Passolt will be the final Huskie playing the course and she tees off at 8:10 a.m. All times Central.
