Applications for the first University Honors Summer Scholars Program, a Great Journeys Strategic Planning initiative, are due at noon Friday, April 20.
Members of the Honors Committee will select two exceptional students as Northern Illinois University’s inaugural University Honors Summer Scholars.
The program recognizes, rewards and honors the Honors Program’s most outstanding students. It also enables these academically distinguished students to complete outstanding University Honors Capstone projects during their senior year.
Summer scholars enjoy the time, financial support and faculty mentoring to pursue in-depth, meaningful research and artistry related to the University Honors Capstone in the summer between their junior and senior years, thereby allowing an outstanding project to be completed during the senior year.
Among the benefits:
- $4,500 stipend to the student for nine full-time weeks of summer pre-Honors Capstone research or artistry.
- $500 in salary, conference support or commodities to the student’s faculty mentor as an expression of gratitude for supporting a University Honors student during the summer months.
- Student holds the title “University Honors Summer Scholar” in summer 2012 and the prestigious title “University Honors Scholar” during the 2012-2013 academic year.
