The Northern Illinois University softball team opens a five-game homestand when the Huskies welcome DePaul to Mary M. Bell Field Tuesday.

First pitch is set for 4 p.m. CT. Fans can follow all the action live via Gametracker at NIUHuskies.com.

“DePaul is a great program with a strong winning tradition,” NIU head coach Lindsay Chouinard said. “It is a tremendous opportunity to earn a big win for the Huskie softball program.”

The Huskies (16-20, 4-4 MAC) carry a three-game winning streak into Tuesday’s game with the Blue Demons, taking the second game of a doubleheader with Eastern Michigan and sweeping Central Michigan.

Northern Illinois extended its winning streak in dramatic fashion Sunday.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the seventh inning, senior Dani Parrish (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) belted a two-run homer to give NIU a 3-2 lead. The Huskies scored an insurance run to post a 4-2 win over the Chippewas on getaway day.

DePaul (21-12, 5-1 BIG EAST) comes into Tuesday contest riding a three-game winning streak of its own sweeping its series with Georgetown. Kristen Verdun leads the way for the Blue Demon offense, batting .378 with eight home runs, nine doubles, 33 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

Following Tuesday’s contest with the DePaul, NIU welcomes Buffalo to Mary M. Bell Field for a doubleheader and a weekend set with Kent State Saturday and Sunday.
