The center will offer undergraduate positions, which require a consistent, 10-hour-per-week commitment. The center also will have 10-hour graduate assistant positions, which include tuition waivers and a stipend. The UWC hires from all majors.

Open house are planned from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, and Wednesday, April 11, in the center’s Stevenson Towers South (lower level) location. The open houses are an opportunity for those interested in joining the UWC staff to get to know more about the UWC.

Trained consultants work one-on-one with all writers at NIU – undergraduates, graduates, staff and even faculty – to talk about their writing.

Clients discuss topics and ideas; develop strategies in planning, organizing and developing drafts; discover effective uses of sources and correct documentation; identify better ways to use language; learn appropriate methods of persuading readers; integrate critical reading and thinking skills in written work; and become more aware of the different types of writing that various disciplines require.

Students also can understand professors’ writing assignments more clearly and prepare résumés and applications for internships, scholarships or jobs.

Applications will be available at the open houses or at the Stevenson South location from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
