Finalists for Health and Human Sciences dean announced, candidate interview schedule set

CHHS logoFour finalists for the deanship of NIU’s College of Health and Human Sciences will begin to visit campus for interviews and open forums this week.

The candidates are Diana Biordi, Thomas Birk, Derryl Block and Linda Samson.

Home to three schools – Allied Health and Communicative Disorders; Family, Consumer and Nutrition Sciences; and Nursing and Health Studies – and the Department of Military Science, the college is well-positioned to be at the forefront of training health care providers, the delivery of care in the region and scientific advances in important fields of health sciences

Diana Biordi, senior associate dean for community partnerships and research in nursing at the University of Akron College of Nursing will visit from Wednesday, April 4, through Friday, April 6. Biordi will hold an open forum for students from 5:10 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in the Wirtz 316. She will meet with faculty and staff from 10:05 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, in the Diversions Lounge of the HSC.

Interviews for Linda Samson, professor of nursing and health administration at Governors State University, are scheduled from Monday, April 16, through Wednesday, April 18. Samson will hold an open forum for students from 5:10 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in Wirtz 316. She will meet with faculty staff and from 10:05 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, in the HSC Capitol Room.

Derryl Block, chair of the professional program in nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, will visit from Wednesday, April 18, through Friday, April 20. Block will hold an open forum for faculty and staff from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in the HSC Heritage Room. She will meet with students from 5:10 to 6 p.m. that day in the Wirtz 316.

Interview for Thomas Birk, associate professor in the Department of Health Care Services at Wayne State University, are scheduled from Monday, April 23, through Wednesday, April 25. Birk will hold an open forum for students from 5:10 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, in HSC Room 306. He will meet with faculty and staff from 10:05 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, in the HSC Capitol Room.
