Academic Convocation is seeking participants – research or academic project presenters or in the formal procession of faculty – for its 2012 academic welcoming event at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at the NIU Convocation Center.
Since 2004, Academic Convocation has become the official academic welcome for all incoming students and an important transitional step as nearly 3,000 new students join the Northern Illinois University community.
A unique faculty/student research presentation with broad appeal will again headline this year’s program and should stimulate immediate interest in the pursuit of collaborative research.
The program also will feature brief addresses by the president, provost, vice president for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management and Student Association president.
A university pledge, a pinning ceremony and renditions of the NIU Alma Mater and Huskie Fight Song accompanied by the NIU Marching Band are scheduled to be interspersed throughout the hour-long program.
Proposals for research and academic project presentations may be submitted before the March 19 deadline in several ways:
- In conjunction with Undergraduate Research & Artistry Day registration.
- Via the Academic Convocation website.
- Directly to the Academic Convocation Committee, c/o Denise Rode, Orientation & FYE, Holmes Student Center Basement, DeKalb, IL, 60115
- Via fax at (815) 753-7480
