NIU alumna Tanya Cabrera will speak during a public forum from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m Thursday, March 1, in the Heritage Room at the Holmes Student Center.
Hosted by the Latino Resource Center, Cabrera will discuss the Illinois DREAM Act, established to allow undocumented students to receive scholarship money that is funded entirely by private donations and contributions.
Cabrera is one of nine members appointed to the Illinois Dream Fund Commission by Gov. Pat Quinn.
“It is a great opportunity to have Illinois Dream Fund Commissioner Tanya Cabrera speak to the NIU campus and the surrounding community,” said Emily Prieto, director of the Latino Resource Center. “Her efforts this year will be critical in securing the funding needed to support the education and dreams of undocumented students.”
