Updated pension, budget website debuts

February 22, 2012

Northern Illinois University’s updated State Pension & Budget Update website debuts Feb. 22 in conjunction with Gov. Pat Quinn’s budget address. The governor’s address traditionally begins the budget process in the State of Illinois.

The updated website includes a link to view or listen to the governor’s budget speech, pension reform information and updates as well as links to pension reform legislation for the current legislative session.

The site’s pension resources page  includes background information and ideas related to pension reform, including reports and studies by the Insititute of Government and Public Affairs, SURS, NIU and others. The site’s budget resources page contains similar documents related to the overall budget.

Two popular features of the site remain:  the pensions in the news section is updated with the latest pension news found in news organizations, and the “share your story” feature allows employees to tell their personal story about their participation in the SURS and how they rely on the system. The first story will be included on this page in the coming week.

The website will continue to be updated throughout the spring legislative session as new information becomes available.
