Northern Illinois University graduate Tanya Cabrera, one of seven appointees to the Illinois DREAM Fund Commission, recently visited with NIU faculty, students and staff to share goals and initiatives of the commission.

Appointed by Gov. Pat Quinn, Cabrera and her colleagues will oversee a privately funded scholarship program designed to help undocumented students pay for college.

Cabrera said she is delighted that NIU is one of the first universities in the state to support the initiative.

“I was so proud, being an alum,” she added.

Cabrera currently serves as the associate director of minority student outreach at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
