Members of the Unity in Diversity (UID) steering committee are responsible for coordinating activities aimed at understanding, acknowledging, educating and celebrating diverse cultures as it relates to gender, sexual orientation, culture, religion, race and physical ability at NIU.
Every year, UID works with different departments to promote the essay, speech, theme and poster contests, which are created to raise diversity awareness and encourage participation in diversity related events on campus.
UID also accepts funding proposal applications for diversity programming. UID provides supplemental funds to university departments, programs and Student Association-recognized organizations to support diversity-related events on campus
Funding proposals must be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month to the Diversity & Equity Office, Campus Life Building 230.
The next deadlines for funding proposals are Wednesday, Feb. 1, and Wednesday, March 7.
