School of Music plans annual holiday concert

November 22, 2011

Traditional holiday carols and a guest organist, pannist and soloists combine for the NIU School of Music’s 14th annual Holiday Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.

The concert will be held in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall in the Music Building. Sold-out audiences in past years suggest that this event has become a holiday tradition for the DeKalb community.

NIU Chamber Choir

Members of the Chamber Choir, the School of Music’s premiere vocal ensemble, will present pieces by Tormod Vik, Alfred Burt and Abbie Betinis. They and Concert Choir and University Chorus will perform additional music by Monteverdi, John Rutter, Bach, Randol Bass and others.

NIU’s choirs will be joined once again by members of the NIU Graduate Brass Ensemble, who will perform “Let It Snow” by Sammy Cahn and “My Spirit Be Joyful,” by J.S. Bach, and young singers in the Community School of the Arts Children’s Choir, who will perform a “Welsh Carol” and “Sing Alleluia, Allelu.”

General admission tickets are on sale now and can be reserved by calling (815) 753-1551 or emailing Lynn Slater at lslater@niu.edu.

Tickets prices are $10 for adults and $7 for all students. Children 5 and younger are free.
