Northern Illinois women’s basketball freshman guard Amanda Corral (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week , the league announced Monday.
In just her first week of collegiate action, Corral led the Huskies to a 2-0 week by averaging 13.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
In a two overtime win over Western Illinois last Wednesday, she scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds in addition to netting two steals in 43 minutes of play. In a win against Temple on Sunday, she led all scorers with 16 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double, totaling four assists to boot.
Despite standing 5 feet 6 inches tall, the diminutive guard ranks 24th in the league in scoring (9.3 PPG) and 17th in rebounding (5.7 RPG) as she is averaging more rebounds per game than her height.
Corral and the Huskies (2-1) wrap up a season-long, three-game home stand at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, against Bradley (3-2) at the NIU Convocation Center.
