College Republicans offer free flags to faculty

November 18, 2011

Photo of U.S. flagsNIU’s College Republicans are offering free 12-inch-by-18-inch U.S. flags to faculty to display in their offices or classrooms.

“The American flag is seen both here and abroad as a symbol of hope, freedom and better life. The free exchange of ideas which this university enjoys is something that not all countries can boast. The flag is a beacon of liberty. It has been flown as Americans have liberated the oppressed. It flies wherever the American people are,” according to club members.

“The flag reminds us of all those who came before us. It also flies those who worked for a better country for all of us to call home. The home we enjoy and love was only made possible by those who have fought and served our country; and above all, the American Flag honors them.

“John Phillip Souza once said, ‘The red and white and starry blue is freedom’s shield and hope.’ We live in a wonderful place, and we want to celebrate the achievements of this nation, both domestically and abroad.”
