NIU’s Unity in Diversity (UID) Steering Committee is a campus-wide committee responsible with coordinating activities aimed at understanding, acknowledging, educating and celebrating diverse cultures as they relate to gender, sexual orientation, culture, religion, race and physical ability.
UID committee members work every year with different departments to promote essay, speech, theme and poster contests, which are created to raise diversity awareness and encourage participation in diversity related events on campus.
The committee also accepts funding proposal applications for diversity programming. UID provides supplemental funds to university departments, programs and Student Association-recognized organizations to support diversity-related events on campus.
Funding proposals must be submitted by 4:30 pm Wednesday, Nov. 2, to the Diversity & Equity Office in Campus Life Building 230.
The next deadlines for funding proposals are Feb. 1 and March 7.
