NIU’s Community School of the Arts offers a weekly class in October and November for young children who enjoy music and stories.
Musical Tales begins Tuesday, Oct. 25, and is for children ages 3 to 5 and their parents. The class meets for six Tuesdays from 6:15 to 6:50 p.m.
Children hear a different story each week and explore musical elements suggested by the story. They listen to animal and nature sounds, sing songs, play rhythm sticks, jingle bells and drums and move to the music. The class includes finger plays and action poems.
Instructor Sara Vogeler is a longtime piano teacher and early education teacher.
These and many other classes, lessons, and ensembles for people of all ages are offered by the NIU Community School of the Arts. The program is sponsored by the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
