Men’s basketball to host open practice Saturday

NIU cheerleaders run basketball court with H-U-S-K-I-E-S flagsThe Northern Illinois men’s basketball team will hold an open practice prior to Saturday’s football game against Western Michigan.

First-year head coach Mark Montgomery’s Huskies will take the floor in Victor E. Court at the NIU Convocation Center at 10 a.m., and practice is scheduled to conclude around 12:30 p.m.

“Saturday’s practice is a great opportunity for the community, students and alumni to come and watch us practice as we start a new era of Huskie basketball,” Montgomery said. “We look forward to being a part of an exciting Homecoming weekend here at NIU.”

Montgomery welcomes back five returnees from last season’s roster, led by senior forward Tim Toler and redshirt sophomore guard Antone Christian; the Huskies also have eight freshmen in the fold for the 2011-12 season.

Fans are asked to enter the Convocation Center through entrances 1, 2 and 5. Convocation Center parking lots and doors will open at 9 a.m., regular NIU football game day parking rates apply. Admission to the men’s basketball practice is free.

Tickets for the 2011-12 season are on sale now and can be purchased online or by calling (815) 752-6800.

Montgomery’s Huskies will open the season Friday, Nov. 4 with an exhibition contest against Carthage College. The regular season will begin Friday, Nov. 11, at Purdue and NIU’s regular season home opener will take place Monday, Nov. 14, against UW-Milwaukee.
