NIU to team with local police, fire departments for simulated DUI crash, rescue at Convo Center

Northern Illinois University students and local community members are invited to witness the devastation caused by an alcohol-related car crash during a mock DUI rescue.

The annual simulation will take place in lot C of the NIU Convocation Center from 5:15 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13.

Conducted by the NIU Department of Police and Public Safety, the event intends to remind the community of the seriousness of drinking and driving while creating an opportunity for rescue workers to better prepare themselves for an actual casualty.

Regional support includes officers from the DeKalb police and fire departments, DeKalb County and Sycamore police officers and Kishwaukee Community Hospital medical staff. Members of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity will portray the individuals involved in the crash.

For more information, call the NIU Department of Police and Public Safety at (815) 753-1212.
