Alum to speak Oct. 21 on photojournalism’s role in shaping public opinion through news images

NIU alum Christopher Birks, a member of the faculty of the Department of Communication Arts at Benedictine University, will speak at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, as part of this fall’s Graduate Colloquium in Communication Studies.

Birks, who is representing the area of journalism, will present “Shots Seen Around the World: Contemporary News Photographs that Changed Public Opinion.” His talk in DuSable Hall 148 is free and open to the public.

Professor Birks holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree in communications from NIU.

He is the recipient of more than 30 statewide and national journalism awards, including awards from the Associated Press and the National Press Photographers Association.
