Whitewater kayaking trip planned to Wolf River

No previous experience is necessary. A pre-trip meeting takes place at 9 p.m. today in the Outing Centre.

The group will camp five hours north of DeKalb near Langlade, Wis., and paddle the wild and scenic Wolf River. Travelers can look forward to enjoying the relaxing wilderness setting of northern Wisconsin and experiencing natural wild water.

Skills covered over the weekend include basic river features and terminology, basic river safety, reading rapids and choosing lines, self- and assisted-rescue and more.

  • Dates and times: Leave at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, and return by 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9
  • Regular registration cost and deadline: members $200, non members $225 by Thursday, Oct. 6
  • Cost includes: kayak equipment, transportation, food, camping and equipment, trip leaders and certified instructors

Open Pool

This session, scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today in the Gabel Hall pool, offers a basic “try it out” experience or practice time for experienced paddlers.

Bring your own boat or use a provided one. Enjoy a game of kay-hockey or perfect your Eskimo roll. Certified instructors from Geneva Kayak Center also will be available to work one-on-one with beginners and teach skills no matter what level you are.

The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. The cost includes use of kayak equipment and facilities, staffed lifeguard, experienced leaders and certified instructors
