October 3, 2011

Human Patient Simulation labPrior to Huskie home football games next season, the NIU Foundation will host “Huddle with the Faculty” to showcase of the outstanding programs, faculty and students at NIU.

However, the inaugural “Huddle with the Faculty – Better Living Through Mannequins” will take place Saturday, Oct. 8.

Saturday’s showcase features a demonstration of how NIU nursing students use programmable mannequins that imitate human patients with various medical conditions and symptoms.

The Human Patient Simulation Lab in NIU’s College of Health and Human Sciences is home to several mannequins — two infants, one child, two adults and a laboring female.

Students are able to combine the skills acquired with the theory behind nursing practice learned in the classroom and apply them in the safety of this state of the art simulated environment using programmable mannequins.

Come meet the high-tech, state-of-the-art mannequins at the Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center. A free continental breakfast begins at 11 a.m. with the presentation beginning at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome.
