That question from a local educator sparked development of a newsletter that lists educational and cultural enrichment activities on the DeKalb campus that are appropriate for professional educators and for families.
The Center for P-20 Engagement is distributing this calendar of October activities through local media and schools. The current edition of the newsletter includes STEMfest 2011, concerts performed by the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra and art workshops coordinated through the NIU Art Museum.
Marilyn Bellert, associate director of the Center for P-20 Engagement, says that the purpose of the newsletter is to increase community access to campus events.
“First, the university sponsors many activities that will engage children and families and are usually free. Secondly, local teachers and principals can benefit from workshops and lectures by eminent educators – if they know what’s available. ”
