Military Student Services to host Oct. 4 talk

September 30, 2011

Members of NIU's ROTC Huskie BattalionMilitary Student Services (MSS) has two upcoming events for veterans and military students.

A discussion on mental fortitude is scheduled from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the MSS Lounge (Room 404 of Adams Hall).

This conversation will cover how thoughts, emotions and physical sensations are interrelated and can create a cycle that can lead to negative outcomes. Mental techniques will be shared that can help combat this cycle and improve one’s health.

Meanwhile, Military Student Services hosts a program from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Wednesday called Food Frenzy Wednesdays.

Lunch is provided for veteran and military students in MSS Lounge. Every other week, a guest speaker is present to provide insight about campus resources or address adjustment issues commonly faced by veterans.

Bob Norwood, a career counselor with Career Services, is on tap for Oct. 5. Norwood will share information about how veterans can best capture their military experience on their resumes. It is recommended that participants bring copies of their resumes to this Food Frenzy Wednesday program.
