Do you have good study habits? Are you meeting new people? The answers to these questions could be precursors to your overall success in college, and NIU MAP-Works will help you stay on the right track.
Every freshman and new transfer student is encouraged to participate in the first MAP-Works survey for the 2011-2012 academic year, available now through the NIU student email account. The survey closes Friday, Sept. 30.
Free NIU T-shirts will be given to students who take the survey.
Students participating in MAP-Works complete a series of personal surveys throughout fall and spring semesters. Each question is designed to provide students, as well as NIU faculty and staff, feedback on students’ learning and social skills, healthy decision-making and self-knowledge. The information is then issued in an individualized report that summarizes strengths and possible challenges, as well as related NIU campus resources that are available to help.
Additional check-up surveys will be sent periodically throughout the semester to gauge student development.
More than 700 students already have participated in the initial survey, with more than 170 NIU faculty and staff trained in MAP-Works to assist with student needs.
Over the past two years, MAP-Works participants have shown the ability to earn higher GPAs, successfully complete more credit hours and reduce the risk of being placed on academic warning or probation.
