After 42 years at NIU, Distinguished Teaching Professor William C. Johnson retired Thursday, Sept. 1.
The Department of English will host a celebration open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, in the Pollack Ballroom of the Barsema Alumni & Visitors Center. Accolades will be given at 3 p.m. All are invited.
Johnson, who earned his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1969, specializes in 16th and 17th century literature; reformation literature, history and theology; and interdisciplinary humanities.
In August of 1991, he joined accountancy professor Richard Baker and mathematical sciences professor Robert Wheeler as the first three winners of the then-new Presidential Teaching Professorship. Johnson also won theĀ Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award in 1988.
