Under the headline “Northern Illinois QB Chandler Harnish has come a long way,” reporter Kevin Allen recounts Harnish’s rollercoaster ride in 2010: “To be better statistically this year, Harnish will have to inch toward spectacular,” Allen writes.
The story begins:
“With Harnish coming off a knee injury and talented DeMarcus Grady looking like an attractive option, Harnish found himself on the losing end of a quarterback competition. ‘I felt terrible,’ Harnish recalled. ‘During practice, sometimes I would be a third-string quarterback, sometimes I would be a second-string quarterback. I was never the first-string quarterback. … I was questioning my ability for sure.’ A year later, Harnish is on the watch list for the Maxwell and Davey O’Brien awards and a primary reason his Huskies are picked by many to win the Mid-American Conference.”
Harnish and the Huskies open the season at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, when Army makes its first visit to Huskie Stadium.
