After 15 years of service to the NIU Huskies, the wrestling coach is moving on to pursue other opportunities.
An open house is planned for 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, in the main lobby of the Convocation Center. The event and parking is complimentary. Snacks and drinks will be served.
One of the longest tenured coaches at NIU, Grant became the first Huskie wrestling coach to have multiple wrestlers earn multi All-American honors as Jeremy Goeden (1997 and 1998), Scott Owen (2002 and 2003) and Ben Heizer (2003 and 2004) each repeated as All-Americans during their careers and account for more than half of NIU’s 11 All-Americans.
In 2004, Grant guided Heizer to the school’s first NCAA runner-up finish since 1973. Owen’s and Heizer’s All-American selections in 2003 marked the first time in school history two wrestlers were awarded the honor in the same year.
Grant received his bachelor’s degree in physical education and coaching from the University of Northern Iowa in 1985 and earned his master’s degree in kinesiology from Minnesota in 1997.
