NIU alumnus Ralph de La Vega (M.B.A. 1989) recently negotiated one of the largest telecom mergers in industry history.

As the CEO of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, de la vega engineered a merger of his company and T-Mobile — with a $39 billion price tag.

The deal, which will create one of the largest wireless telecommunications companies on earth, is expected to not only enhance AT&T’s bottom line but also spur development of broadband technology across the country.

de la vega will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the College of Business next month.
