Fernando Torres-Gil, President Obama’s appointed vice chair on the National Council on Disability, will speak on “Aging with a Disability: Nexus of Demographics and Public Policy” from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in the Altgeld Hall auditorium.
Torres-Gil, who also is director of the Center for Policy Research on Aging in the School of Public Affairs at the University of California-Los Angeles, will address the impact of the demographic trends on public policy in the United States, including the aging of the baby boomers, the increase in the number of individuals with disabilities and the growing needs of individuals with disabilities as they age.
He will take questions during the presentation, and a reception will take place immediately after the presentation.
The event is sponsored by the NIU Presidential Commission on Persons with Disabilities.
