NIU’s Presidential Commission on Persons with Disabilities will host the Rockford Chariots, a wheelchair basketball team, for an exhibition game Thursday, March 31, on the Victor E. Court of the NIU Convocation Center.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The game begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
This fun, community-based event will help provide an opportunity to recognize and conquer attitudinal barriers through awareness of some of the ways that persons with disabilities have chosen to confront their disabilities in affirmative ways.
The event also builds on the fervent belief that humanity will become a unified force that is powerful, beautiful, diverse and contagious by coming together to promote and celebrate an accessible environment that is enriched by the full participation of all persons.
Also scheduled that evening are live entertainment, a sing-and-sign performance of the national anthem, chances to win prizes and a free-throw competition.
