Adjusting to college life may be overwhelming for some, but NIU’s Admitted Student Days provide incoming freshmen the opportunity to become better acquainted with their prospective surroundings prior to attending the university.
The first of two scheduled Admitted Student Days was Monday, Feb. 21 with 375 potential students and 532 guests in attendance. Another estimated 300 students are expected to attend the same event Monday, March 7.
The comprehensive campus visits allow admitted freshmen an opportunity to meet with NIU faculty, students and staff, talk with financial aid counselors and tour the campus and residence halls.
“NIU is connecting people with the personal aspects of the university in a way that creates an individual experience rooted in the academic and co-curricular offerings,” says Brandon Lagana, director of admissions. “By connecting with the people and sampling the experiences they will have at NIU, these programs are designed to showcase all the best that NIU has to offer.”
Lagana says by focusing specifically on admitted freshmen, they are able to tailor the experience to students’ interests instead of providing general information.
“Our objective is to turn that interest into actual enrollment,” Lagana says.
Megan Woodruff, assistant director of admission, says the event was a success.
“Everyone was very excited about the event and the opportunities it gave them to hear more about NIU and their academic area as well as meet current students, faculty and staff,” Woodruff says. ” The experience definitely seemed to solidify NIU as the choice for many students.”
For transfer students, NIU’s Transfer Center is hosting Transfers Get Information Friday programs (TGIFs) from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 25 and Friday, April 1.
Registration is required for these events.
High school juniors will have the opportunity to tour the campus Friday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during Junior Preview Day.
