NIU will give pension, budget news via Twitter

February 11, 2011

Twitter logoThe latest news regarding pension and budget issues is now available via Twitter feed.

“Few topics will be more important to current and former NIU employees this spring than discussions in Springfield that could dramatically alter the way the state administers pensions and health care for both groups,” NIU President John Peters said.

Just this week, the State Journal Register newspaper in Springfield editorialized: “Considering what happened this week at the Capitol, they may very shortly be at the center of perhaps the greatest government-vs.-labor battle this state has seen in the 40 years since its current constitution was ratified.”

That editorial is an example of nearly a dozen news articles and editorials that have been posted to the Division of University Relations State Pension and Budget Update website launched this week.

To provide that information in an even more timely manner, University Relations also has created a Twitter feed that will provide immediate notification of (and links to) any new news stories or significant updates posted to the State Pension and Budget Update website. To subscribe to the feed, click the Twitter icon in the lower right hand corner of the site’s home page, or News page.

“The climate in Springfield is so volatile right now that changes are likely to happen quickly,” Peters said. “Hopefully, this Twitter feed will allow subscribers to have the latest information at their fingertips at all times.”
