NIU alumna Susan Caplan returns to DeKalb this week as the featured speaker of the third annual Career Resources Networking Night, sponsored by the NIU Alumni Association and Career Services.

The event, scheduled from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, will include career-related breakout sessions in addition to Caplan’s presentation on how to market yourself effectively to employers.

With more than 25 years of business experience, Caplan is a skilled communication and marketing specialist as well as the author of “How to Market Yourself to the Real World: 10 Simple Steps to Gain a Competitive Edge in the Job Market.” She has presented extensively to organizations such as Loyola University, the Kellogg Graduate School of Management and the American Marketing Association.

Caplan will bring a message of determination and hope to the Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center, 231 N. Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb.

She acknowledges that the “word on the street is that the job market is opening up” and that “it’s the start of a new year … a good time to review the companies where you’ve applied earlier. Many businesses have fresh budgets at the start of a year and may be open to talking with you now.”

Take advantage of the fresh start of a new year. Attend Career Resources Networking Night free of charge and enjoy Caplan’s insightful presentation.

Each Cardinal & Black and Legacy member of the Alumni Association who attends the event will receive a free signed copy of Caplan’s book. Attendees are encouraged to bring their membership cards, or they may sign up at the event.
