The Ally Program is designed to foster a welcoming and supportive campus environment for LGBTQ individuals by creating a visible network of allies. It is an opportunity for all people to learn about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning identity, and builds connections between the broader campus community and LGBTQ individuals.
Volunteers display the “NIU Ally” symbol on doors and buttons to visibly identify themselves as supporters of the LGBTQ population who understand some of the issues facing people who are LGBTQ and who are aware of LGBTQ resources.
At the conclusion of training, participants are offered an agreement form to indicate participation in this campus-wide program. The LGBT Resource Center will provide personalized NIU Ally display material to create a visible network of allies at NIU.
Training is divided into two workshops, two hours each (Part I and Part II). Volunteers must attend both Part I and Part II to complete the training, and space is limited.
Advance registration is required. The location of the workshops is not disclosed publicly, and will only be included in your confirmation e-mail.
Registrants can indicate first, second and third choices.
