LGBT center seeks Ally Award nominations

January 13, 2011

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center logoNIU’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center celebrates the contributions of Allies within the NIU LGBTQ community — those individuals, departments and groups that support LGBTQ people and fights discrimination based on LGBTQ identities — and wants to recognize those who have made a difference this year.

The center is seeking nominations for the seventh annual Ally Awards, which were created to recognize the many ways people make NIU a better place for LGBTQ students, faculty and staff.

Ally awards are intended to be as inclusive as possible. Rather than narrowing the list of nominees down to just a few select recipients, all qualified nominees will receive the awards. More than 40 recipients and/or groups are honored each year.

The Ally Awards are co-sponsored by the LGBT Resource Center and the Presidential Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity.

Nomination forms are available online. The deadline for nominations is 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 4.

Questions about the process can be answered by calling (815) 753-5428 or by e-mailing [email protected]. The awards ceremony will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday April 8, in the Sky Room of the Holmes Student Center. All are welcome.
