NIU’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center celebrates the contributions of Allies within the NIU LGBTQ community — those individuals, departments and groups that support LGBTQ people and fights discrimination based on LGBTQ identities — and wants to recognize those who have made a difference this year.
The center is seeking nominations for the seventh annual Ally Awards, which were created to recognize the many ways people make NIU a better place for LGBTQ students, faculty and staff.
Ally awards are intended to be as inclusive as possible. Rather than narrowing the list of nominees down to just a few select recipients, all qualified nominees will receive the awards. More than 40 recipients and/or groups are honored each year.
The Ally Awards are co-sponsored by the LGBT Resource Center and the Presidential Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity.
Nomination forms are available online. The deadline for nominations is 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 4.
Questions about the process can be answered by calling (815) 753-5428 or by e-mailing [email protected]. The awards ceremony will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday April 8, in the Sky Room of the Holmes Student Center. All are welcome.
