Altgeld Holiday Celebration a hit with local families

Kids in craft roomPresident John G. Peters and his wife, Barbara welcomed hundreds of local youngsters and their families to Altgeld Hall on Friday evening for the annual Altgeld Holiday Family Celebration.  Holiday revelers sampled seasonal snacks and beverages, posed for family portraits, and listened to storytellers positioned in several rooms throughout the historic campus building.

“We’ve been here three or four years,” said Carrie Abbott-Walk of DeKalb.  “It’s a wonderful building, it’s very exciting, and we look forward to coming here every year.”

The crafts room was among the more popular venues on Friday evening, as was the book room where donated books were reviewed, swapped and purchased by children of all ages.  Book sale proceeds will benefit local children’s charity organizations.

The highlight of the evening was when professional, award-winning storyteller Linda Gorham engaged youngsters and their families with holiday tales within the festively-adorned confines of Altgeld Auditorium.
