Northern Public Radio to mix business, pleasure

December 1, 2010

Classical WNIU and NPR News station WNIJ will launch separate year-end fundraising campaigns from Tuesday, Dec. 7, through Saturday, Dec. 11.

These mini-drives provide one final opportunity for listeners to support their favorite public radio programming while earning a charitable giving tax credit for this calendar year.

Classical WNIU (90.5FM) hosts its campaign from Tuesday, Dec. 7, through Thursday, Dec. 9. A special “thank you gift” CD of holiday music will be offered to qualifying contributors. A “Listen Live” audio stream of WNIU’s programming is accessible online.

89.5-WNIJ’s two-day pledge drive begins Friday, Dec. 10, with Morning Edition and wraps up with a year-end special the following afternoon. The Best Of Public Radio 2010 airs from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, covering some of the biggest stories and memorable moments of the past year. A “Listen Live” audio stream of WNIJ’s programming is accessible online.

Station supporters will be encouraged to call a devoted “Pledge Line” phone number during the campaign or to make a secure online transaction any time at http://www.northernpublicradio.org  by clicking the “Pledge Now” button. More than half of the stations’ annual funding comes from local listeners and businesses.

Throughout December, both stations will broadcast an assortment of popular holiday specials to keep listeners relaxed, entertained and mindful of the season. Station websites feature details at http://www.wnij.org and http://www.wniu.org, respectively.

WNIJ and WNIU are part of Northern Public Radio, the broadcast service of NIU.
