Annual Altgeld Holiday Family Celebration will feature bedtime snacks, stories, family portraits

Altgeld Hall in winterJoin President and Mrs. Peters to kick off the holiday season at the annual Altgeld Holiday Family Celebration, scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10.

After dinnertime, return to historic Altgeld Hall to enjoy festive bedtime snacks and stories that celebrate the magic of the holiday.

Listen as professional, award-winning storyteller Linda Gorham and “suprise guest” storytellers engage the children in winter tales. Make a craft project to take home. Sit for free holiday family portraits. Learn about NIU’s literacy education program.

Also featured this year is a book swap and sale. Bring a book to donate and take a new selection home with you. Book sale proceeds will benefit local children’s charity organizations.

The campus community is asked to donate used books for inclusion in the swap and sale. Donations will be accepted through Thursday, Dec. 9, at these locations:

  • Intercollegiate Athletics Office at the Convocation Center.
  • Graham Hall 321 (College of Education dean’s office).
  • Zulauf Hall 312 (College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ dean’s office).
  • Campus Child Care Center.
  • Founders Memorial Library.
  • Holmes Student Center (main office).
  • LaTourette Hall 202.
  • Altgeld Hall 125.
  • Wirtz Hall 227 (College of Health and Human Sciences’ dean’s office).
  • Campus Life Building 150.
  • Barsema Hall 139 (College of Business’ dean’s office).
